Windows XP Live USB

Salah satu aplikasi windows yang harus dimiliki oleh seorang IT engineer yaitu, Windows XP portable. Pengistalan hanya relatif mudah namun harus menggunakan flash disk dengan kapasitas 512MB.

Selain simple, yakni hanya menggunakan flash disk, anda juga dapat menggunakan windows ini untuk pengecekan hardware, khususnya mainboard. tinggal plug in ke USB, anda bisa ngecek hardware anda melalui windows.

Installation Instruction :

Rename USB stick through file HPUSBFW.exe and format with FAT file system.
Copy all the files from a folder on USB stick.

Start :

Reboot the computer.
In BIOS or through Quick-boot menu choose boot from the USB

Windows XP SP3

Sebagian dari kita mungkin masih penasaran dengan kelebihan Windows XP service pack 3 yang di rilis microsoft beberapa minggu lalu. Peluncurannya dijadwalkan akan tersedia untuk publik tanggal 29 April 2008 ini melalui Windows update setelah sebelumnya hanya tersedia untuk para pabrikan komputer. Namun karena ada masalah kompabilitas, Microsoft menunda peluncurannya. Menjelang beberapa hari peluncurannya, Microsoft menemukan masalah kompabilitas antara XP service pack dengan Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS), sebuah sistem supply-chain untuk retailer kelas kecil dan menengah.

Dari hasil pencarian bersama paman google, saya menemukan beberapa link untuk download SP3 ini. Dari bebrapa blog yang saya temukan memberikan link download, namun tidak satupun yang memberikan hasil yang baik, semuanya mengarah pada update melalui situs microsoft dan windows update, hanya link http://www.softpedia.com/ yang menyediakan untuk downloadnya.

Men-Disable Registry Editor

Mengutak-atik registry editor untuk sebagian orang awam mungkin berbahaya, namun bagi sebagian lainnya yang mengerti mungkin hal yang sangat menyenangkan. Namun resiko yang di timbulkan jika terjadi kesalahan akan berakibat fatal.

Nah bagi anda yang ingin computer anda tidak diacak-acak oleh tangan-tangan jahil, ada baiknya anda mendisable registry editor anda. Hal ini sangat berguna untuk mencegah orang lain mengubah setting registry komputer anda ! Untuk melakukan itu Anda dapat mengubah seting registry dengan cara:

Buka registry editor menggunakan menu Run pada Start Menu
Ketik regedit kemudian Enter
Buka menu HKEY_CURRENT_USER >SOFTWARE >Microsoft >Windows >CurrentVersion >Policies >System
Double klick pada DisableRegistryTools
kemudian isikan value pada REG_DWORD (DWORD Value) 1
Kemudian anda tutup registry editor

Jika Anda mengubah setting dengan benar maka saat program regedit dipanggil akan muncul pesan kesalahan seperti gambar di bawah ini:

Jika anda ingin mengembalikan seperti semula, Caranya gampang, ikuti langkah-langkah di bawah ini :

Dengan menggunakan Notepad, buatlah sebuah file baru. Ketikkan isi seperti di bawah ini:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableRegistryTools"=dword:00000000
Simpan dengan sembarang nama file, tapi dengan ekstensi reg, misalnya enable_regedit.reg.
Setelah itu klik 2x file tersebut untuk meng-enable registry editor.
